# Field mapping

> Map fields in a FlexiCapture Document Definition to a Laserfiche template, choosing the target template and matching captured fields to its template fields.

FC determines the type of each document that is being processed. Typically, for documents of each type a separate Document Definition is created, which tells the program which fields to capture. In a similar fashion, each document in Laserfiche corresponds to a certain template (the default template is named General). A template may contain text fields, including typified fields.

If necessary, you can set up export of documents and fields from FC to specific templates and fields in Laserfiche.

In FC, an export profile is created for each Document Definition separately. All you need to do is specify the Laserfiche template to which to export documents of this type and map the fields in the Document Definition to the fields in the Laserfiche template.
