# Editing a Checkmark Field

> Edit checkmark field properties in ABBYY FormDesigner: shape, size, text position, border width and color, standoff, tip, background, and linked field.

For each **checkmark field** element, the following properties can be specified: text position, field size, border width, border color, standoff, text, [font](/flexi-capture/form-designer/element-checkmark-field-edit#font), word wrap, text color, background color, linked field.

You can change the properties of the **Checkmark Field** element in the Element Properties window located in the bottom right corner of the [main window](/flexi-capture/form-designer/main-program-window). The Element Properties window is displayed only if **View →** Element Properties is selected on the main menu.

To change the explanatory text of a checkmark field, double-click the text area.

## Element

**Type** — Checkmark Field

**ID** — A unique identifier of the element.

## Position and size

**Left** — Sets the distance you wish between the left edge of the form and the element with no left indent.

**Top** — Sets the distance between the top edge of the form and the element.

**Width** — Sets the width of a **checkmark field** element.

**Height** — Sets the height of a **checkmark field** element.

## Text

**Text** — The explanatory text accompanying the **Checkmark Field**.

**Font** — The font of the explanatory text.

To change the font, its size and style (italic, bold, underline, etc.) click the Change ... button and in the **Font** dialog box that appears, select the required font, font size and style.

**Font color** — Selects a **text** background color from the drop-down list for dropout forms or from the palette for color forms.

**Word wrap** — Wraps the lines of the text without breaking words.

## Checkmark Field

**Type** — The shape of the **Checkmark Field**:

* Square
* Circle
* Underline

**Position** — Sets the position of the **Checkmark Field** in relation to the explanatory text:

* Left of Text – checkmark field to the left of the text
* Right of Text - checkmark field to the right of the text
* Above Text - checkmark field above the text
* Below Text - checkmark field below the text

**Size** — A drop-down list containing predefined field sizes (3.5x3.5, 4x4, 4.5x4.5, or 5x5 mm).

**Line width** — Sets the width of field borders (ranging from 0.4 mm to 0.8 mm).

**Standoff** — Sets the gap between the checkmark field and the text explanatory text (ranging from 2 mm to 7 mm).

**Color** — Selects a field border color from the drop down list for dropout forms or from the palette for color forms.

## Background

**Same as form background** — Makes the background of the **Checkmark Field** the same color as the background of the form.

**Other** — Selects a **checkmark field** background color from the drop-down list for dropout forms or from the palette for color forms.

  The range of available colors depends on the type of your form (black and white or color).

## Tip

**Text** — Sets the tip text. The tip will be typed in the checkbox.

**Font** — Selects tip font.

To change the font, its size and style (italic, bold, underline, etc.) click the Change ... button and in the **Font** dialog box that appears, select the required font, font size and style.

**Color** — Selects a tip color from the drop-down list for dropout forms or from the palette for color forms.

**Auto size font** — Selects font size for tips automatically, according to the height of character cells of the field.

## Linked Field

**Linked field** — By default, whenever you create an element on your form, a field is created within the [document structure](/flexi-capture/form-designer/document-structure) to which this element is linked. To link your element to another field of the same type, select the name of the field from the drop-down list.
