# Merging Form Elements

> Merge form elements in ABBYY FormDesigner to preserve their relative positions when moving, split merged elements, or add elements to a merged set.

Merging form elements is useful when you wish to preserve the positional relationship of the elements on the form when moving them.

To merge several elements:

1. Select the form elements you wish to group.
2. Select the **Merge** tool on the **Edit** toolbar.

To split elements:

1. Select the merged elements you wish to split.
2. Select the **Split** tool on the **Edit** toolbar.

To add an element to previously merged elements:

1. Select the previously merged elements.
2. Press and hold down the **Shift** button and select the element you wish to add to the group.
3. Select the **Add to Merged Elements** tool on the **Edit** toolbar.
